The National Museum of Scotland is hosting Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobites, the biggest exhibition of its kind in over 70 years, until 12 November 2017. At this not-to-be-missed event you can see artefacts belonging to Bonnie Prince Charlie, including his shield, sword and travelling canteen, alongside other Jacobite memorabilia. 2: YEAR OF HISTORY, HERITAGE AND ARCHAEOLOGY 2017

Edinburgh’s New Town area has turned 250 years young this year. What better time than during the Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology 2017 to visit this elegant part of Scotland’s capital city. You can also visit Edinburgh’s Old Town, which is much older, to shine a light on its mysterious and sometimes gruesome past.

3: GEAR UP FOR OUTLANDER SEASON 3

Author Diana Gabaldon’s fascinating world of standing stones, romantic castles and sweeping scenery was inspired by real places and Scottish heritage. The TV adaptation set 3rd series was released recently, and filmed partly on location in Edinburgh. Now is the perfect time to get your Outlander geek on.

4: EDINBURGH’S AUTUMN AND WINTER FESTIVALS

Edinburgh is well known as a festival city that really knows how to put on a show. It’s THE place to celebrate the start of the New Year at the famous Scottish celebration of Hogmanay featuring events and music over three glorious days from 30 December 2017 to 1 January 2018. From mid-November, the city also turns into a Winter Wonderland with a fabulous Christmas market plus music, performances and more to make for a truly festive season. With the Edinburgh Restaurant Festival and the Scottish Storytelling Festival in October, there’s every reason to visit in the coming months.
