Bradley International Airport Celebrates JetBlue’s Inaugural Service

HARTFORD, CT (November 17, 2010) – Lt. Gov. Michael Fedele welcomed JetBlue Airways’ inaugural flight from Fort Lauderdale today in an event at Bradley International Airport. “It is my pleasure to welcome JetBlue Airways to Connecticut: we welcome them to our business community and to the Bradley International Airport family,” said Fedele. “Bradley International is the premier airport for Connecticut and having JetBlue Airways as a carrier is a terrific travel opportunity for all our New England passengers.”

JetBlue is launching twice daily nonstop service from BDL to both Fort Lauderdale/ Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Orlando International Airport (MCO). Customers will also be able to conveniently connect to other destinations in the Caribbean and Latin America, including San Juan, Puerto Rico; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Bogota, Colombia; and Cancun, Mexico.

“We are very excited to add this long-requested service to Connecticut today,” said Rob Maruster, COO of JetBlue Airways. “With the introduction of our award-winning service between Hartford, Florida and beyond, complete with assigned seating, the most legroom in coach, personal seatback TVs, and a convenient schedule, we know JetBlue will be a hit in Hartford.”

"We look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with our JetBlue partners,” said Connecticut Transportation Commissioner Jeffrey Parker. “Anytime we can expand our offerings to travelers, everyone profits, and so does Connecticut's economy. JetBlue is to be commended for investing in Bradley and the people we serve."

JetBlue’s COO Rob Maruster also presented $10,000 to Mike Smiles, Chief Development Officer of the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. Founded in Ashford, Connecticut by Paul Newman more than 20 years ago, the Camp serves more than 15,000 children with serious illnesses each year.

“We are also proud to give back to the community, supporting local charities like the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp” Maruster added. “JetBlue is committed to supporting the people, places and events that matter most to the communities we serve.”

"The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp is honored with JetBlue's leadership support of community initiatives that support our life-changing mission of serving children and families coping with serious illnesses through summer camp, year-round programs, and hospital outreach," said Hole in the Wall Gang Camp Chief Development Officer J. Michael “Mike” Smiles. "We welcome JetBlue's involvement in raising awareness and engaging audiences to learn more about The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp and how people can make a difference in the life of a seriously ill child. We are very grateful for this significant gift."
